Toners: the good, the bad, the ugly
Toners were once considered a stringent concoction used to remove grime left after cleansing but now this isn't the case.

A good toner should form part of your skincare regime alongside cleansing and moisturizing. Today, toners are more like serums, designed to freshen and rebalance the pH balance of your skin. Choose a toner carefully and avoid alcohol-based toners as they strip the skin of essential moisture.

It's best to talk to a skin consultant to find the right toner to suit your skin type. Read more about our skin care products here.

Spring offer at Pure Skin Therapy
If your hands are dry or damaged by sun, we've got the perfect treatments up our sleeve. A series of IPL treatments can reduce freckles, sun damage and age spots, as well as improve skin texture. Throughout September, receive a complimentary Refresh and Renew Leighton Denny manicure when you book a series of IPL hand treatments.

Understanding how your cleanser works
This is the first in a series of posts on common skin problems for women in Central Otago.

The most common mistake people make is to over cleanse or over exfoliate your skin. If you experience that squeaky clean feeling then you know that you have over cleansed. The skin excretes both oil and water known as the acid mantle or NMF (the skin's natural hydrator), which is designed to form a barrier on the skin. It's like the waxy surface that we often find on apples. It also acts as an oily buffer to prevent the loss of water from the skin and as a buffer to protect the skin from the harsh extremities of our environment.

Avoid cleansing with soap and water as the skin is slightly acidic and soap is alkaline. It also plays a part in disrupting this natural acidic protective film and in Wanaka we need that oil. Seek the advice of a skin care professional who will recommend the correct cleanser for your skin type.
